Abstract

Since the creation of the Unified Health System (SUS), the organization of state and municipal health surveillance services failed to advance at the same pace as all the other services. Objective: To analyze the seven core and necessary actions of Municipal Health Surveillance established by the Health State Secretariat of Rio Grande do Sul, 2010 – 2014. Method: Data about the Health Surveillance actions contained in the indicator 41 of the Pact Guidelines, objectives, goals and indicators 2013 – 2015, were collected from the SUS database. Results: During the studied period, all actions resulted in an increase in the number of municipalities holding a particular activity and sending regular data, in direct proportion to the population size increase. Only 53 (10.7%) municipalities performed all seven minimum actions in 2014, while 34 (6.8%) did not perform any. Conclusion: Even if the data cannot assess the quality of the action or of the recorded data, the identified increases point to an improved organization of municipal health surveillance services.
