Abstract

The design of production facilities subject to Sanitary Surveillance is a complex and multidisciplinary activity that should result in spatial arrangements that optimize the products obtainment and meet the sanitary regulation. The language used in health legislation difficult its understanding by designers, hindering the understanding of the direct relationship between the sanitary risk, the facilities and the flow conditioned by them. The aim of this paper is to propose a conceptual model for Production Facilities projects subject to Sanitary Surveillance (CMPF-VISA). Data collection occurred during a participatory and multi-disciplinary work process at the state level of VISA in RS, in the period from 2000 to 2010, featuring the nature applied and the qualitative approach used. Are presented as results, a systematization of the legal requirements for installations, different ways in composing spaces, processes flows and sequencing and the practical implications of using the model in the design and evaluation of facilities are presented. The implementation of CMPF-VISA in real situations showed no incompatibility between designing facilities that minimize health risks and simultaneously optimize production. The legal demand for design facilities approval at VISA, proved to be a timely reflection moment about the physical infrastructu-re planning capable of enabling the compliance of Good Manufacturing Practices.
