Abstract

Introduction: Epidemiological Surveillance consists of a set of actions aimed at understanding the dynamics of a disease or health problem. An important tool is the epidemiological bulletin, used to disseminate technical and scientific information in order to guide Public Health projects. In the pandemic scenario of COVID-19, epidemiological monitoring is extremely important. Objective: To report an extension action to produce epidemiological bulletins about COVID-19 at a federal university. Method: Bulletins are produced weekly, with data analysis provided by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health in official media worldwide, in Brazil, Minas Gerais and mainly in Uberlândia, based on raw numbers and frequency measures, in addition to news collected from the main media outlets in the country. Results: Eleven bulletins were produced, as well as a website and social networks where the materials are distributed. The production gained visibility in the city, becoming an important mechanism for the dissemination of technical and scientific information. The dissemination of the bulletin is made according to the guidelines of the National Contingency Plan for Human Infection by the new coronavirus that brings this resource, as well as to the use of social networks, as a way to facilitate the prevention and control of infection, as it becomes a reference for the population amid the flow of information, often containing Fake News. Conclusions: The preparation of bulletins proved to be an effective way to carry out communication for Health Surveillance, having a great impact in coping with COVID-19, being essential to be transmitted and stimulated in times of pandemic in the country.
