Comparative analysis on food imports between Brazil and Japan

This article describes and compares the food import processes carried out in Brazil and Japan, subject handling in the course Food Safety Policy Making And Management, conducted by the authors in an international training mission in Tokyo/Japan, from 26 / 11 to 07/12/2013. The course was organized by JICA, International Cooperation Agency of Japan, the Japanese government body responsible for implementing the Official Assistance for the development, growth and socio-economic stability of developing countries. First we present the scenery of Brazilian food control. The responsibility is now shared between MAPA and ANVISA, both consenting agencies of imported foods. Subsequently, a comparative analysis is conducted on food imports, for the design of an ideal situation in Brazil. Finally, alternatives and considerations of the authors to achieve the quality standard Japanese are presented, respecting the prism of the inherent difficulty in the Brazilian sanitary food control.Downloads
