The objective was to identify the knowledge of professionals regarding the surgical management of solid waste in health. This is a study of quantitative approach, descriptive cross-sectional KAP (knowledge, attitude and practice). The study was performed in a surgical ward at a public hospital in the city of Fortaleza, under the Ministry of Education. Data collection took place in the months of September and October 2011. For data analysis we used the correlation coefficient between knowledge, attitude and practice with socio-demographic data of professionals. The study showed the lack of respondents regarding solid waste on health and the same interest in acquiring them and that reflect positively on actions that contribute to the promotion of health in the environment. It is perceived to be critical that these actions are aimed at professionals who produce the waste, through educational measures to promote awareness and reflect on their attitude and practice on the proper disposal of the waste produced.
