Abstract

This study aimed to survey the legislation about stem cell therapies at the national and international levels. We also discuss the regulatory aspects adopted for stem cell therapies in Brazil. We conclude that one must be cautious when developing a national legislation. Regulatory studies should be conducted so that this legislation does not hinder clinical research and is not fragmented, as seen in other countries. Periodic reviews of regulations that will not prevent the progress of science and ensure the safety of the population should be performed.
